The Catch/Room Full of Walters
The Catch was formed in 1986 by five college aged guys with a similar vision and love for music. Tired of hearing the same covers played by most of the bands in the area, they aspired to bring a fresh sound to the local scene from bands like R.E.M., The Cure, The Romantics, The Smiths and more. After only 3 years of playing venues and colleges in Wichita , Lawrence , Manhattan and Kansas City , The Catch decided it was time to move on.Chris went to Nashville to study audio engineering, Alan went to play with local band Van Gough Soul, Mike, Dan and Rus continued on with The Catch adding Chris Ruffin on guitar and VJ Barrett on drums. After about another year, the band desolved.
About the same time, Rus rejoined with Alan and VanGough Soul bass player Kurt Starks to start a new project. They approached Mike for the lead vocal role and guitar player Mark Scheltgen to round out the band, thus Room Full of Walters was born. Alan, Kurt, Mike, Mark and Rus will be performing a few songs from their first CD release "Wonderful" at the big bash.
These days each member of The Catch/Room Full of Walters are still involved in music in one way or another. Mike McDowell currently performs with his band The Knock-Offs in Cleveland, OH. Dan Hines, after touring with Lawrence base Paw, is still writing and performing. Chris Neal is the Instructor in Sound Technology at South Plains College in Lubbock, TX. Mark Scheltgen runs his own independant label, Digital Boy Records. Alan Austin currently performs with Wichita based Lucky People and Kurt Starks and Rus Anderson perform with Wichita based The Naughty Astronauts.
